Next Wave Of Demonstrations For Land Comes
Yesterday, on April 5th , the member farmers of the Fairer Land Privatization Movement (FLPM) gathered in 52th kilometers west from Ulaanbaatar to start the Movement’s third demonstration for land. There were 110 participants came from 8 villages by 8p.m. Farmers from 31 villages of 3 provinces are expected to participate in the marsh-parade-demonstration to be held in Ulaanbaatar on Monday, April 7th, during the opening ceremony of the spring session of Mongolian parliament. More.

FLPM has permission to organize its demonstration on Freedom square, but they were denied to marsh till Ulaanbaatar’s west point , as well as to parade from the western point of Ulaanbaatar till its center. The Movement’s leaders expressed that the objection for marsh and parade “for traffic safety reason” was not legally based. Among gathered participants there are many pensioners, women and even some will ride bicycles. They are going to sleep in tents in minus 5 degrees. Weather promises to be cold (maximum +4 during days) and windy these days. Liberty Center, CEDAW Watch, Human Rights and Development center delivered legal advice to those who are participating in demonstrations for the first time.

Liberty Center will watch whether participants of the coming marsh and parade will be given chance to walk to Ulaanbaatar along the road and whether the Movement will achieve success in its next appeal for fairer land privatization.
